While doing homework on the redevelopment of Coney Island, I came upon this interesting article about a new amusement development coming to Coney this season. Check out the link for additional information, including job applications. It appears this company is seriously interested in redeveloping Coney’s amusement zone!

|LETTER FROM CIDC PRESIDENT LYNN KELLY|
|Summer 2010 Amusement Operation in Coney Island Unveiled|
|Dear Friends and Residents of Coney Island:
I write on this cold, winter day with some thrilling summer news!
This afternoon, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg joined local elected officials and community leaders to announce that the City has designated an operator for the amusements in Coney Island and that, beginning THIS SUMMER, more than 20 new state-of-the-art amusement rides will be installed at America’s Original Playground. The operator, Central Amusement International, LLC, is an affiliate of Zamperla, Inc., one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of amusements to the industry. In Coney Island, they plan on showcasing the very best of amusements at two parks — named Luna Park and the Coney Island Scream Zone — on over 6 acres of property that the City recently acquired from Thor Equities. For more details about the new amusements, please see the press release or check out the ride renderings.
Today’s announcement represents a true turning point for the seaside amusement destination that we all know and love, and I want to again thank the many, many people — from all of the elected officials, to the local business owners, to the local residents — who have fought hard for their community over the past several years. With a new district-wide zoning and now a world-class amusement operator in place, the revitalization of Coney Island as an amusement destination can begin in earnest.
Over the next few months we’ll be in touch with more exciting announcements about the new Luna Park and Coney Island Scream Zone, including ways for the local community to get involved and employment opportunities. You can also become a fan of CIDC on Facebook to see our more frequent updates, or check out the tourism updates from the Coney Island Fun Guide on Facebook or on Twitter @ConeyIslandFun.
We have a lot of work to do in a very short amount of time to ready the park for this summer — Memorial Day is just around the corner. Thanks for all of your support and for your persistent belief that Coney Island’s best days are ahead!
