2010 Coney Island Mermaid Parade!

June 22, 2010

This year, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson were crowned King Neptune and Queen Mermaid at the annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade.

It didn’t rain on this year’s parade.  Each year the costumes get more creative, and the participants get younger.  There were several groups voicing their opinion about the Gulf oil spill.  Overall a good time was had by so many.

It had been reported that some people became unruly trying to get a better view of the parade.  The Boardwalk was still under reconstruction, making a tight situation even tighter.  Many of the businesses were not allowed to put their tables or items for sale outside until after the parade.  However, the parade was such a success and grows in popularity each year.

Here are some links for photos of the Parade Courtesy of Pablo57:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/pablo57/sets/72157624212335775/ (these are some of his favorites).   Also http://www.flickr.com/photos/pablo57/sets/72157624331845242/(Pablo’s complete set).  He does wonderful work capturing the true essence of the event!

A great time was had by all!  See you at the 2011 Parade!

Happy Summer Everyone!
