Joey Chestnut takes the mustard yellow belt, eating 54 dogs and buns in ten minutes!  In Nathan’s Famous July 4th Hot Dog Eating Contest. Congrats Joey for a job well done!

In the blazing Brooklyn Heat, contestants shoved hot dogs down as the heat rose.  Although Joey didn’t break his record, how many of us could eat more than 4 without getting a severe belly ache!  In all my years of watching (in person and on ESPN), I’ve never seen such a crowd!  A great summer for Coney Island — YAY!!!

I’d like to thank you for visiting Coney Island Playground of the World blog and going over the 10,000 hit mark!  I’ll will continue to update the blog with new posts, present and future info, as well as memories and memorabilia of Coney’s past.

Again THANK YOU and please return when you can!

For decades New Yorker’s have descended on Coney Island to stay cool and escape the summer heat. Take a look at how New York’s favorite resort has change over the years.

Below, in 2010, Luna Park re-opens in Brooklyn as it replaces the old Coney Island park as the premiere fun park on the Brooklyn shore.
